Call for Papers - Deadline for Full Papers: April 1, 2009
... launched on November 20, 2008

The Academy of Hotel Management & Facility Management, part of the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences (the Netherlands), and Green Cross Nederland are proud to announce the following joint conference: Earth Charter Day Academic Conference 2009 (EDAC2009).

The overall theme for ECDAC2009 is the contribution of the academic world to achieving the objectives as established in the Earth Charter. The Earth Charter is a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society for the 21st century. This Charter has been formally endorsed by over 2,500 organizations, including global institutions such as UNESCO and the World Conservation Union (IUCN).

The general format of the conference includes keynote speeches, panel discussions, concurrent paper presentations, open discussions/networking, and more. Confirmed keynote speakers include, among others, Prof.Dr.Dr. Ervin Laszlo, systems philosopher, founder of the Club of Budapest and member of the Club of Rome at that time, and Dr. Eduard Muller, President of the University of International Cooperation and Vice-Chair of the World Commission on Protected Areas - IUCN, Central America. All accepted papers will be published online as open access proceedings (Procedia). A selection of papers will be invited by the ECDAC2009 International Scientific Committee for submission to relevant Elsevier journals.

Call for Papers, important information

In line with the above, we solicit Full Papers related to the overall theme of ECDAC2009. As a general guideline, we welcome submissions that focus on the actual contribution of the academic world to promote and realise (one or more of) the four main principles of the Earth Charter: (1) respect and care for the community of life, (2) ecological integrity, (3) social and economic justice, and (4) democracy, non-violence, and peace. Furthermore, we explicitly, but not exclusively, solicit submissions from the fields of economics, ecology, social sciences and technology that discuss topics such as, but not limited to, the sustainability of our financial system, possibly becoming extinct of animals and plants, war and poverty (including the widening gap between rich and poor, North and South, developed and developing countries), and renewable energy sources and energy saving. To create a good balance in the programming of concurrent paper presentations, the ECDAC2009 International Scientific Committee would especially welcome additional papers in the latter category. Papers from these and other fields related to the overall theme are expected to describe original research, best practices or specific proposals and invitations for future (joint) projects.

Please note that submissions must not substantially duplicate work that any of the authors have published elsewhere or that has been submitted in parallel with any other conference, workshop or journal.
